As we continue to progress through the homework and grading book study sessions, I think the biggest take away for me has been that our highest levels of learning occurs when we have effective instructional feedback.  John Hattie (Visible Learning, p37) explains that teachers need to consider and openly discuss three key feedback questions:  “Where are they going?”  “How are they going?” and “Where to next?” (The “they” refers to both the teacher and the student.)   In my opinion, this is truly a unique perspective, because it implies a need for role reversal of capacities and expectations.  This process will need to be carried out at the school level, but much of the key feedback question discussion could take place within our PLCs.
